Name your fear, then let it go.

What keeps you up at night right now?

It could be any number of things: Will Mom be safe in her assisted living facility? Will my business survive? Can I get the kids to quit squabbling? How can I keep my employees safe? If I lose my network connection will it destroy my credibility? Why am I eating so much?

Fear and anxiety are normal human emotions, especially during times of stress and change. Unmanaged, they lock down your ability to think and act. So, sometimes we resort to ignoring those unpleasant feelings. Doesn’t work! In quiet moments (like when you’re trying to sleep), they jump all over you.

Instead, take a good hard look at your worries. Name them. Write them down, perhaps. Ask yourself, “If my worst fear comes true, how will I manage?” Most of the time, our worst fears don’t come true. But considering them makes them less scary.

Then ask, “What can I do NOW to prevent this fear from coming true?” Once you have an answer, take action. That kills fear.

If the answer is “nothing,” because it’s outside of your control (as many things are right now), then you can make the conscious choice to let the anxiety go. Anxiety is fear about something that hasn’t happened yet. Stay present and focused on what you’re doing…
